Apartment Schnitzenbaum

The noble family of the Barons Schnitzenbaum acquired the Poljane estate in Bela krajina in the 16th century. Its members distinguished themselves in battles against the Ottoman Empire and held some of the highest command positions in the Military Frontier, including the command of the Bihać fortress in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, they were devoted supporters of Slovenian Protestantism, especially Eva von Schnitzenbaum, who spent her final years in Črnomelj.
